About this job
 This position plans, implements, and manages safety programs to eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and resultant financial losses. Develops accident prevention and loss-control systems and programs to support construction operations.  Provides support to Senior Management and project teams in an effort to promote corporate safety and health policies and procedures, as well as providing safety management training.

Policies and Procedures
  • Collaborates with internal and external resources to define, maintain and administer the company safety program and any initiatives to reduce risk of incidents and related cost.   
  • Maintains oversight of Company’s Hazard Communication program and Chemical Inventory. 
  • Assists project teams in the completion of preconstruction planning and Job Hazard Analysis for all projects. 
  • Assists project teams with review of subcontractor safety plans. 
  • Educates and advises employees on safety guidelines and policies. 
  • Works with General Superintendent and outside Safety Consultant to ensure all employees are up to date on all required training.
  • Works with outside Safety Consultant to establish and conduct effective safety orientation programs and training.
  • Maintains safety equipment and ensures that all employees are issued Personal Protective Equipment when they are hired.
  • Promotes prevention through safety training and provides as necessary. 
  • Promotes safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all Federal, State, Local regulations and as required owner / contractual requirements.   
  • Works with Corporate Resource Manager (“CRM”) to administer the motor vehicle record check program and enforce any corrective action.
Site Inspection
  • Conducts quarterly safety audits with outside Safety Consultant and/or insurance carrier representatives for each project per company policy.   
  • Takes the lead in representing the Company in OSHA investigations and formal site visits. 
  • Keeps appropriate level of management and CRM informed of status of OSHA investigations. 
  • Develops “lessons learned” from site inspections and incorporates these into recurrent training for employees. Provides recommendations for policy changes based on lessons learned. 
Relationship Management
  • Builds working relationship with project teams and subcontractors to promote safe and healthy work sites.  
  • Builds working relationships with OSHA, and other regulatory agencies to promote safety and loss prevention.   
  • Participates in networking, business related events and functions 
  • Participates in key project issues and negotiates third -party agreements related to safety.   
  • Compiles quarterly and annual compliance safety reports for Senior Management.
  • Provides recommendations to Senior Management in implementing cultural change in safety for company. 
  • Investigates and reports claim information to Vice President(s), Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”), General Superintendent and local claims administrator in accordance with policy.   
  • Works with CRM to investigate Workers Compensation claims.
  • Works with CFO, CRM and insurance underwriters during insurance renewals.
Subcontractor Prequalification
  • Assists with subcontractor prequalification efforts for subcontractor safety program evaluation.
  • Assists project teams as needed in preconstruction/pre-phase meetings with each subcontractor on the project. 
  • Manages the company safety budget and establishes project safety budgets.   
  • Utilizes multiple specialty safety skills and knowledge to mitigate risk.  
  • Assists all project teams with Storm Water Management and compliance with State and Local codes.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
A four (4) year degree in Safety and Health or equivalent is preferred with a minimum of five (5) years of safety experience or a combination of education / multiple years of experience in building construction, with a working knowledge of safety / environmental principles and techniques.
